Daily deals are a popular way of selling products on the internet. Pioneered by US site Woot.com, the method features sites offering one item for a one day period, at a heavily discounted price. Stocks are limited and items regularly sell out before the day is up. Deals are usually for an actual product, like a lipstick or DVD, rather than a voucher for a service as found with group buying sites.
There are a number of variations on the classical one deal a day theme with sites like City Software, Fashion Zoo and Daily Labels focusing on a particular niche of online shopping like electronic or fashion, whereas Ozstock, Catch of the Day, Zazz and others offer a wildly different item daily ranging from electronics to cookware to gadgets toys. Most sites are Australian based but some are subsidiaries of larger US websites like 1 Sale a Day. Some websites offer variations on the one deal concept by offering more than 1 main deal, like 1-Day who offer 3 deals every day and Mighty Ape who offer 4 from their range of books, DVDs and games. Most sites offer one deal a day as their core business model, but some of the larger players in internet shopping have also entered the one day deals market including Shopping Square, OO.com.au and eBay Australia. There are also a few sites that deviate from the standard timeframe and offer deals a less or more regularly than every 24 hours, sometimes once a week, sometimes every few days and for some sites every hour, particularly when they are running special promos or looking to clear stock.
With so many deal sites to visit, bargain hunting can become a real chore. If you want to stay on top of what’s on offer you could either visit each site separately, or sign up to a pile of daily email alerts that quickly flood your inbox.
